'Dark Sides' of our recent history (4 hours)

|
We visit Memento Park, about half an hour drive from the city centre. The place takes you back in times when Hungary was locked behind the iron curtain. 40 'works of art' which were displayed during communist times in Budapest on public places have been gathered in a Park.
You can take a walk through the past. The gigantic statues, the so - called Stalin grandstand, film-showings make the place a stunning memorial to the fall of communism. We drive back to Budapest to the 'House of Terror' which is a museum now but it was witness to two shameful and tragic periods of the 20th Ctr. In 1944 it was the headquarters of the Nazis, between 1945-56 of communist terror organizations.
The museum commemorates the victims of the terror as a memento reminding us of the dreadful acts of terrorist dictatorships. It is very informative and well organised! Finally we drive to see the newly erected memorial to the 50th anniversary of the 1956 uprising.

Our city is different by day and by night. On this tour you have the chance to see the illuminated city. I will pick up from your hotel at 7 pm, we drive to the hills of Buda to a very nice restaurant where you will have a traditional Hungarian dinner.
A welcome drink, the Pálinka with honey and 'Pogácsa', our specialty. There is a three course meal, an excellent goulash soup, a mixed plate with different local specialties and mixed garnish + salad. The dessert is the 'Gnocci from Somló' a lovely spongecake with whipped cream, chocolate and vanilla sauce and walnuts. The show is performed by 8 dancers, you will see the Hungarian 'csárdás'. The traditional folk dance and some other dances from different regions.
The gipsy band is outstanding, they play Hungarian folk music, gipsy music and melodies from anywhere in the world on your request.
The restaurant has wonderful view to the city, but we will drive back to central Buda and admire the view from the Citadell at night as well.
